Opticomm Transmission Systems Chosen by The City of Los Angeles, Department of Transportation, for Traffic Surveillance Purposes San Diego, Cal. - July 9, 2002 - Opticomm Corporation, an innovative designer and manufacturer of fiber optic transport systems, today announced that the City of Los Angeles, Department of Transportation (LADOT), is using some of their fiber optic transport systems to optimize the flow of traffic in the City of Los Angeles, thereby improving safety and minimizing congestion and delays. Traffic detectors and CCTV cameras monitor the stoplights and the flow of traffic on the road. Motorists view the stoplights and take the appropriate action. Opticomm's Models FMV 574 and FMX-48400 were selected to transmit video and data from numerous locations such as Staples Center, Dodger Stadium, Boyle Heights, Wilshire Boulevard, Sunset Boulevard and Los Angeles International Airport to the Automatic Traffic Surveillance And Control (ATSAC) Center located in the City Hall of Los Angeles. FMV 574 is a simplex video transmission system with the optional combination of one duplex audio or one duplex data. FMV-574 is available in single mode and multimode, with operating distance up to 25km. ASTAC is using Opticomm Model FMV 574 units to bring video from cameras to sixteen hub locations. Two-way data is transmitted over the same fiber from the hub to the camera for pan/tilt zoom and control functions. The information is then transmitted from the hubs to the ATSAC control center. The FMX-48400 is a four video multiplexer transmission system. Versions are available for multimode fiber with transmission ranges up to 1 Km, and single mode versions with transmission ranges to 20 Km. The FMX-48400 was used to expand an existing multimode system into the Dodger Stadium area with three more cameras on the surrounding streets.
